Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed announced that the Prime Minister’s laptop scheme will be continued in the coming days.
Chairman HEC made this announcement while talking to reporters in Karachi.
The chairman added that with the help of Microsoft and other international organizations, HEC will also launch an online course program for Pakistani university students.
The announcement came after the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led federal government announced it would revive the historic Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme as part of its youth development initiatives.
According to HEC sources, the scheme has a budget of Rs 10 billion and will provide laptops to BS, MSc, MPhil, PhD and undergraduate students (limited number).
Meanwhile, the government has also constituted a committee under the supervision of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed to finalize everything including standards and others.
The Prime Minister’s Laptop Guarantee Scheme is an initiative to increase research and quality education in Sri Lanka and increase access to information technology. It provides free laptops to 100 thousand deserving students who are currently studying or appearing in public sector colleges and universities or appearing for matric exams, intermediate, bachelors, masters and masters, PhDs as well as across Pakistan. The motivation and passion behind the scheme is to help students overcome challenges and obstacles on their way to knowledge and achievement.
Men and women registered with an HEC approved educational institution are eligible to participate under the scheme. All Masters/PhD students and 50% of undergraduate students will receive a laptop.
The 14-member committee includes Executive Director HEC, Additional Finance Secretary (Budget), Government of Pakistan and one member from Science and Technology Planning and Development Department, Secretary Higher Education Department Punjab, Secretary Higher Education Department Sindh, Secretary Higher Education Department Balochistan. , Higher Education Department Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, National Information Technology Board (NITB), Higher Education Department Secretary Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) representative and others.
Eligibility Criteria :
- Applicants must have valid Computerized National Identity Card
- Candidates must be enrolled in Public sector University
- Students who have obtained 60% marks (for annual system) or 70% marks (for semester system) or equivalent CGPA/GPA in the last examination will be considered for merit list only.
- The GPA/GPA is converted into a percentage by the formula determined by the HEC.
- The remaining laptops may be adapted at each distribution level (eg academic, department, campus, institution or regional department) at the discretion of the Project Steering Committee.
