Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) is an electricity distribution company that supplies electricity to Gujranwala district in Punjab, Pakistan. Its jurisdiction includes the districts of Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Gujarat and Mandi Bahauddin. The current CEO of GIPCO is Engineer Mohammed Ayub. Gujranwala Electric Power Company Limited (GEPCO) was established under the jurisdiction and power network of the then Area Electricity Board and was built in the early sixties. It is the present district of Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujarat and Mandi Bahauddin.
The GPCO was incorporated on 25 April 1998 and received its Certificate of Commencement on 5 June 1998. Management and administration rests with the Board of Directors (BOD).
In the early 1960s, the government of Pakistan decided to create an independent and autonomous body to manage all available water resources and the network of power generation, transmission and distribution systems. The department was created as the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), the second largest department in Pakistan after the Pakistan Army. In the 1980s, when WAPDA’s electricity distribution network was split into eight Regional Electricity Boards (REBs), Gujranwala was one of the various electricity boards involved in distribution.
