Introduction :
The Department of Agriculture was established in the United India by the British government in the 1880s. The objective is to increase productivity through introduction of improved crops/breeds of crops and livestock, development of forests on wastelands and promotion of cottage industries in the country. The Punjab Agriculture Department was established in the 1890s. The Punjab Agricultural College and Research Institute was established in 1906 at Lyallpur (now Faisalabad) and was entrusted with research, extension activities and introduction from foreign countries. In 1962, Pekri was divided into three independent divisions. Agricultural Extension, Agriculture. Research and university level college, first named West Pakistan Agricultural University, now Faisalabad Agricultural University. In course of time, Forest, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Co-operative departments became autonomous departments.
